On July 28 2020, a federal grand jury convicted theranos CEO Elizabeth Holmes of four counts of fraud. Just a few years before, Holmes was named the youngest self-made female billionaire at the age of 30. Her company, Theranos, had a reported valuation of $9 billion at its peak. Holmes claimed to revolutionalize lab tests using a single drop of blood. Her company marketed blood testing equipment that did not work as promised. According to Holmes her company was able to eliminate the tubes and tubes of blood needed for blood testing and made it possible to use just a drop of blood.
